Fruit crumbles are one of those desserts that never go out of style.
The recipe gives the apple a head start in the microwave first, but if you don’t mind a little more crunch in the crumble, you can skip this step. Also, I use coconut flakes in my crumble. Flaked coconut is my new favourite ingredient and it makes the dish just a little more fancy, plus the flakes give you concentrated bursts of coconut flavour more so than desiccated coconut.
Serve with yoghurt, custard or ice cream, if you like.
A shortcut for this recipe is to replace the fresh apple and pear with canned pears in juice, and stir through some frozen raspberries or blueberries.
This recipe is easily doubled or more, and is actually a great dessert for a crowd. It’s even easier if you use the canned fruit option.
